The Building Research Establishment (BRE) is holding a consultation on the latest draft of its standard for Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products (BES 6001).
The process began in a review workshop held in October 2012 in conjunction with the Construction Products Association. This event identified some of the potential key points to be examined, including supply chains, traceability and stewardship of raw materials.
From this, the draft document was produced and BRE is inviting feedback from construction industry professionals until 27th November.
Once finalised, the revised BES 6001 standard will provide manufacturers of construction products with a framework whereby their products can be independently assessed and certified to determined that they are responsibly sourced.
Not only will the standard form part of the BREEAM family of certification schemes, it will also be recognised under the Code for Sustainable Homes, where credits can be awarded for construction products that are independently certified through BES 6001.
