Good news for building specifiers and roofline installers: the latest survey from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has confirmed that the third quarter of 2013 saw an increase in housing projects.
41% of construction firms quizzed by RICS reported a rise; better still, activity has increased in all parts of the UK – the first time in six years that this has happened.
Even so, due to growing interest in schemes like Help To Buy, RICS reports that more houses need to be built if supply is to catch up with demand.
“We are certainly not out of the woods yet,” explained Simon Rubinsohn, chief economist at RICS. “Critically, we’re still way behind in terms of building enough homes to meet the nation’s growing housing need and overall construction projects are at a historical low.”
