Housebuilding stats confirm buoyant start to new year

The latest figures released by the National House Building Council (NHBC) have confirmed that 2014 has got off to a great start.

UK new home registrations increased by 14 per cent compared to the same period last year, extending the upward trend observed in the market during the latter months of 2013.

Better still, the increase included rises in registrations for both private and public sector housing, suggesting that current growth is on a robust footing and giving further confidence to developers and building specifiers.

"Our figures show that the industry enjoyed a strong start to 2014 by maintaining the momentum from the previous year,” NHBC commercial director Richard Tamayo said.

"Both private and public sectors reported growth on the same month in 2013 and we look forward to hopefully seeing this trend continue throughout the year to help meet the demand for new homes."
