A new scheme has been established that will allow approved contractors to report any high-risk plumbing they discover, helping to improve standards in housebuilding.
The pilot scheme has been set up jointly by Severn Trent Water and the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC) and is open to all WaterSafe approved contractors.
The latter will be encouraged to file a defective work report, after which Severn Trent Water will implement an inspection and, if necessary, demand contraventions of plumbing regulations are fixed.
“We believe there is a unique opportunity through the WaterSafe initiative to bring plumbing contractors and Water Companies together, to better tackle the issue of high-risk defective work,” explained John Thompson, CEO of APHC.
“This pilot initiative has great potential to tackle issues of enforcement and to bring about better regulation of defective work.”
The pilot project is being run through selected plumbers in the Severn Trent area and, if successful, will be rolled out to other water companies.
