Private housing dominates revival in UK construction

The latest figures announced by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors suggest that a construction industry revival is underway across the UK, driven primarily by the private housing market.

The Construction Market Survey for the first quarter of 2014 indicates the fastest rate of growth in construction workload since it began twenty years ago.

The figures confirm the trend of the last quarterly survey covering the end of 2013 that commercial housing projects dominate – and surprisingly, not only in the London and South East of England but across the UK.

On average, respondents expect workloads to expand by a further 3.8% over the coming year, which is good news for the building products sector.
