A raft of measures announced by George Osborne included £150m in funding to support self-builders. This “Right to Build” scheme will see the creation of up to 10,000 serviced plots, which aspiring builders can purchase from the council.
The move could allow self-builders greater autonomy and financial muscle in specifying elements such as roofline products.
At the same time, a Budget designed to “get Britain building again” includes £500m for smaller housebuilding firms, funds to regenerate the country’s worst urban housing estates, an extension of the Help To Buy scheme until 2020, and the creation of 15,000 new homes in a garden city in Ebbsfleet.
“Taken all together, the housing policies I announce today will support over 200,000 new homes for families,” commented George Osborne.
