Deeplas Takes Luxury Living to New Heights

Twinson® Terrace decking from Deeplas has provided a visually stunning yet durable solution for the balconies of 142 luxury apartments in The Heron development in London.

At 112m tall The Heron, which is situated on the iconic Barbican estate and rises above the Square Mile, is one of the most prestigious addresses in the capital and offers spectacular views across London.

The striking 36 storey development redefines the standards of luxury living in the city and contains apartments, offices and restaurants as well as state-of-the-art facilities for the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Twinson® decking in Liquorice Black was specified by David Walker Architects for the balconies because it provides the natural appearance and warmth of timber combined with the low maintenance and durability of PVC. 

Due to the scale and high specification of the building, these qualities were vital to ensure that the apartments retain their high-end aesthetics for many years.

Twinson® decking offers a high slip resistance even when wet and this was an important consideration for the architects on this project because it creates a safe balcony area that can be accessed all year round.

The balconies, which feature glass balustrades and anodised aluminium hand rails, were constructed off-site by Hubbard Architectural Metal Work Limited and then craned into position from street level. The Twinson® decking was also installed off-site.

The Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 Heron benefits from the sustainable qualities of Twinson®, as the decking material is 100% recyclable and an environmentally friendly alternative to tropical hardwood.  Twinson® decking contains PEFC pine which grows quickly in forests that are being continually replanted.

Twinson® is available in eight colours, including Liquorice Black, which was chosen for this project because it complimented the glass and anodised aluminium material used on the balconies as well as enhancing the contemporary style of the apartments.

Coloured products carry a ten-year guarantee.
